Key product decisions

Two calls that shaped the roadmap

Growth over monetization

PWA-first expansion strategy

Chose a PWA launch over native mobile apps to maximize reach, reduce operational complexity, and bypass regional payment infrastructure challenges. Optimized for user acquisition and market validation before investing in app store distribution.

Focused ICP strategy

Winning one audience before serving many

Resisted expanding into multiple industries despite feature requests. Focused the roadmap on IT professionals, the strongest early-market segment, enabling a simpler product experience and a clearer path to product-market fit.

Persona product needs
Never forget accomplishments, quantify impact consistently, build evidence for promotions, communicate value confidently, and develop a long-term career narrative.
Persona top pain points
Achievements forgotten between review cycles. Impact recorded without numbers. Self-reviews written from memory under deadline. Logging wins never becomes a habit.
How persona learns about the product
LinkedIn posts from engineering leaders, career-growth creators, tech communities and newsletters, manager recommendations, recently promoted colleagues, professional development podcasts.
How persona would use the product
Captures achievements as they happen, records project outcomes and business impact, stores stakeholder recognition, maintains a running brag document, then generates self-review drafts and promotion packets ahead of 1:1s and career discussions.
How persona buys and expects to buy
Signs up online and starts on a free trial. Upgrades to an individual subscription if the product proves valuable during review season; expects her company to buy licences at the enterprise tier.
How persona will get the product
Instant access via web or a mobile-friendly experience with no setup complexity. Data syncs across devices; onboarding gets her logging achievements within minutes.
How persona is billed and pays
Monthly or annual subscription by credit card, possibly reimbursed through an L&D budget where enterprise support exists.
Expectations of post-sale support
Fast support, reliable storage and privacy, tutorials and best practices, AI-generated improvement suggestions, clear documentation, and high availability during review cycles.

Why this persona?

We interviewed professionals across engineering, product, business, legal, banking, healthcare, military, and leadership roles. Achievement tracking was a widespread challenge, but software engineers consistently reported the strongest need around documenting accomplishments, quantifying impact, and preparing for promotions — making them the most compelling initial ICP for validating Bragsheet's core hypothesis.

Additional persona: LinkedIn influencer

Beyond primary customer personas, we identified LinkedIn influencers as a strategic decision-influencing audience. Because influencer-driven awareness was one of our top growth hypotheses, we mapped their goals, audience expectations, content preferences, and partnership motivations to inform marketing and distribution.
